On the rare occasions that the hubs and I get a day to ourselves, I’m extremely happy to spend it playing tourist in our own towns.  Just give me some sunshine, a camera, and the company of the man I love and I’m a happy girl.  To me there is nothing more romantic than slowly carousing the streets and shops under his arm, giggling at his jokes and stopping every now and then to snap a picture or admire a cute boutique.  I don’t even insist on buying anything (although I can’t guarantee that I won’t want to create a knockoff version of what I see).

One of my favorite places to prowl around is Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano.  What was once the oldest neighborhood in the state has now been converted into charming, adorable little street shops.  Each one is overflowing with handmade goods from local artisans, and one never knows what treasure might be unearthed there.

Whenever I feel myself getting into a creative slump, I visit my favorite street and come away filled to bursting with inspiration.

Sometimes it’s not so much the things that inspire me, but the colors and texture that nature has elegantly painted along the tiny street.

It’s interesting how vibrant colors are, especially when life seems hard and grey as old concrete.  It’s like God’s way of reminding us that He’s always around; all one has to do is open their eyes…

Isn’t that flower archway heavenly?

Sometimes it’s the little details that are so easily overlooked…

An open window that invites in the breezy sunshine…

A cobbled alleyway draped in dappled sunlight…

A rock wall weathered by time and history…

An ancient door hinge embedded in a solid old door…

And the brilliantly blue sky, empty of anything other than Heaven!  I admit that sometimes I get so caught up in what’s around me, I forget to look at the sky and remember how small my problems are compared to the beauty of the world around me.  But when I do remember to look up, I’m always – always – greeted by glorious colors in all hues splashed across the skies (no matter the weather).

Mmmmm… Can you imagine what kind of treats you could find in there?  I could spend all day looking – and gladly!!

It’s fun to admire these things alone.  But for me, it’s a thousand times more fun when the man I love has his arm wrapped tightly around me.  ^_^  (I love you SO much, Babe!!)

So make it a point to go outside today and enjoy the little details.  You never know – you might discover something you’ve never noticed, or even be inspired to create something you’ve never considered before!  Thanks again for joining in my adventures.
