Accessorizing Your Home on a Tight Budget

By |November 18th, 2013|

As I showed you yesterday, it’s not impossible to have a beautifully decorated home on a tight budget.  All it takes is a bit of creativity and a little elbow grease.  But sometimes it’s not the big statement pieces, but all the little details that polish off your home.

However, it’s amazing to me just how expensive these details can be!  Because of my current financial situation, as well as the fact that I am a firm believer in the DIY movement, I am here to tell you that you don’t have to pay oodles of money in order to have cute things.

Decorating Your Living Room on a Tight Budget

By |November 17th, 2013|

I love this time of year.  Here in Southern California, we don’t have much of a changing of the seasons – it’s more indoors than out.  Homes transform with oranges and reds, wreaths, decor, and very soon after that, twinkling lights and Christmas trees.

But to be honest, I’m also terrified of this time of year.

Why?  Because we’re on a budget – an extremely tight budget.  That means that as a wife and mother, I don’t always have a chance to purchase pretty things to decorate my family’s home, and that’s a scary thought.  No one wants to be judged as lacking, especially by family and friends that visit during the holidays.

But we’re a proud family.  In order to beautify our house to our own satisfaction, we do what we do best: get creative!  So before our family makes the indoor holiday changing of the seasons, I wanted to show my lovely readers exactly how we normally decorate the heart of our home – the living room – on a tight budget.

Miniature Fairy Swing Set

It’s a bit horrifying to me how expensive fairy garden accessories are.  My family is new to the hobby, and it didn’t take me long to realize that you could easily spend more on the accessories (which are the coolest part of the whole thing), than you would on the container, the plants, and the soil combined.

As Donald Duck would say, “Oh Phooey!!”

So I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of accessories that would be cheap and easy to make.  And being cute is a definite plus, as well.  ^_-  Well, mission accomplished with this one (if I do say so myself).  =P

The Terra Cotta Fairy Garden

By |July 24th, 2011|

After creating our first Picket Fence Fairy Garden, we knew immediately that we’d have to build another.  Our first clue was when I literally had to drag my three-year-old away from it to go the park that day.  Our second clue was when she wanted to sleep outside in the hopes of catching a glimpse of her fairy.

So after finding a large terra cotta pot for under $10 at Home Depot, we got to work.
