Flounder Trick-or-Treat Bucket

By |October 17th, 2013|

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was to finish my daughter’s Halloween costume this year – it was literally a blast from my own past and a major sense of deja vu (My 4th birthday party was an Ariel party, and I can still recite every word and song of “The Little Mermaid”, for goodness sake!)

But what’s the first thing my little brat sweetheart asks when she sees her “Little Mermaid” tail and Ariel’s seashell bra?

“Where’s Flounder, Mommy?”

If you saw my post from yesterday, then you know my daughter wants to be Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” for Halloween this year.  And of course, she wants to be Ariel in her mermaid form – the kid always makes it extremely easy on me…

So since we’ve done the tail, and the Flounder Trick-or-Treat Bucket, it’s time for the top.

Halloween Ariel Mermaid Tail

My darling daughter recently announced that she wanted to be Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” for Halloween this year.

“Sure, Sweetheart! What dress do you want to wear? The blue one with the big bow when she first turns human?  Or the pink princess one?”

That’s when I got the look from my five-going-on-fifteen-year-old that clearly stated how slow she thinks I am.  “No Mom, I want to be a mermaid.”  Ah.  Yes.  Of course.  The hardest costume known to man.  Because unfortunately, I’m not nearly strong enough to shlub around a fifty-pound kindergartner when she gets tired during trick-or-treating when she can’t walk properly.

DIY Sea Salt Hairspray

One of the most amazing perks of my new job is that I’m often in the ocean.  I have to admit, the transition from stay-at-home mom to Naturalist Attendant for The Ritz-Carlton’s Eco-Adventure Center has been… well… SO MUCH FUN!!

Other than getting paid to go on Eco-Adventures and teach people all about the sea, another added benefit to my work is that most days of the week I am sporting beach hair.  What exactly is beach hair, you ask?  It’s those luscious, wavy locks one gets after a day of paddling through the waves.  Used to be that the only way to get said locks was to go to the nearest pier and dunk your head into the ocean.

The one thing you should know about me is that I like to spend oodles and oodles of money on home decor (pfff… Um, no. I wish.) In all honesty, I’m extremely passionate about handmade DIY – on a budget. I love being able to enjoy beautiful things, but in my eyes they are even more beautiful when I got a lot of bang for my buck. I’m really excited about the project I will be sharing today, because not only is it something that we’ll be able to enjoy for a long (long) time, but it also cost less than $20 to make! ^_^ Talk about bang for your buck!!
